GTX 960

LVL1PotPlant

I've got a build in the pipeline for a relatively low budget gaming PC that I'll be able to do some light work tasks on, mainly microstation.

Since the main focus of my build is value I've been eyeing up the upcoming GTX 960 for a while now.

From my very amateur point of view the card seems like a really solid bet but I'd appreciate some input from more knowledgable sources.

OP the GTX960 will be released January 22nd and will be a cheaper solution, but if you're running budget or workstation it will be a fine choice.

You should consider the 270x or 280x at that price range

When in doubt: C4

the gtx X60 cards are the upper mid class GPUs, You usually wont get a better price/performance than that.

I hate speculating especially when there's not much real information about the card. Just wait until the NDA is lifted in less than a month.

We have not seen any real world tests and benchmarks yet, It is hard, if not impossible to say what performance it will have.

I considered them for a time but they're a touch more expensive for much older hardware with little/no specs advantage by the looks of things.

There is not much known about the GTX960, we have to wait until january for details.

What i know about the card (might be false rumours):

- 2 gigs of gddr5 ram, i dont know if microstation uses a lot of vram, so i don't know if its enough for you(though im sure it will have a 4 gig version too)

- the target price is probably around 250$ which is normal for x60 cards (the x60 cards are usually the best performance/price ones but the 970 is so good in price/performance that i don't know if the 960 is going to top it.)

-it will probably have 128 bit memory bus, since the maxwell uses cache rather than larger memory bus, and also the new compression technique reduces the need of memeory bandwidth. This narrow bus will result in low power consumption, but lower bandwidths too.

What the things i said are not confirmed by nvidia, so as i said we can only say what the cards is going to be when we get the exact specs from nvidia.
