Looking for a hardware audio solution for multiple inputs (PC&PS4)

Go to solution Solved by kubanm3,

I made scheme of how it could look in my system. i changed it a bit so it fit yours. I was going to use Fiio E17, but you can use whatever DAC with optical input for PS4 you find. Fiio made new version of E17 without optical input so if you want it you need to buy it fast.

Hello, Im building a new computer in january and I thought it might cool to get this annoying audio situation I have been dealing with for like 2 years (the PS3 before ps4 was released) fixed up at the same time.

I share my Monitor (without speakers) with my Playstation 4 because i dont actually have a TV in my small room, I have room for my computer desk and thats what I want this all to work with.

I would like to be able to run my PC sound into the same speakers as my PS4 meaning it needs to work with the the standard 3.5 audio jacks for a PC and also have an Optical input which is what the PS4 has for audio output seperate from the HDMI thats going to my monitor.

I currently have some cheap Cyber acustic 25$ speakers but Im looking to spend a solid 150$-200$ on the audio set up for my new rig which is already going to be about 1,800$

I want to have volume control and input switch option on my desk (the CA speakers have a seperate volume twist dail with an on/off switch that I keep to the left of my keyboard which has a good 12-15 inches of space so a larger device could still fit)

please feel free to make suggestions, Im brain storming ideas because i personally have very little audio knowledge, all of my hardward knowledge takes place inside of a computer case lol (please give reasons for suggestions so i know its not just personal bias behind a suggestion but actually sound quality/ cost efficiency reasons for the suggestion)

Just to clear it up im talking about speakers with these option built in or even speakers plus a device to be used with them to achieve these features im looking for. (if you have any questions please feel free to drop them in the comments, I check the forums often)

You're going to want a FiiO d3 and a FiiO E6. That will let you use a 3.5mm device with it. Now if you want both your ps4 audio and pc audio playing at the same time then your budget is not high enough. If you want that you will need to get a mixer too.
