hey, I bought Lightning 290X's and I just remembered they are 3 slot cards... With this being said, the top card will almost be touching the second card. If I don't OC, should the temps be okay?

It depends on your case, ambient temp, and airflow.

they weren't much more over the other 290Xs, and I will overclock later on. Just atm my PSU isn't sufficient, and when I get a bigger case I will move the 290X down for better cooling :D

I upgraded from a hd5450 > 660 > 290x

you will be running on the edge here but as long you enabled ULPS which will shut off the second GPU on idle

 

it ok for the first card to be slightly warmer, you can go into MSI software provided by MSI and set a custom fan profile to keep the GPU run cooler at the cost of noise

 

the tri fan setup can be custom tune like the outer fans can be shut off and only the center fan is running

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.
