War Thunder Ground Forces question

I just saw a couple YouTube videos from a while ago where, it would seem you could play as either a plane of a tank. I take it you can't do this anymore or am I just blind and cannot see this game mode.

Yea I know about ground forces but that is more like a kill streak where you get a plane. Like this video.

I was confused, then i watched the video and i got even more confused. The heck is that?

 

I certainly know about ground forces and normal planes, and planes in ground forces, but not whatever that is.
