Yes, it is compatible.  Z97 is backward compatible with Haswell, whereas Z87 requires a BIOS update.

I personally run an i5-4670k + Asus Z97-AR

Of course. 4670K will work with any LGA1150 socket motherboard.

Haswell Refresh*

No, it is backwards compatible with Haswell.  It comes out of the box compatible with Haswell Refresh.

Z87 is the one that is compatible with Haswell, but needs a BIOS update for Haswell Refresh.

That's what I was correcting you on. I'm confused :P

What did I need correcting on?  My first statement is correct.

The Z87 chip set supports haswell without a BIOS update perfectly fine. My current build even has an it 4670k on an z87 motherboard and it booted up fine first time.

The z87 needs a BIOS update before running 4690ks or 4790k as they are Haswell Refresh but the 4670k and 4770k are just Haswell and supported out of the box.

Are you drunk?

I said this the first time around.

Please don't be rude all the time. One could read your sentence in two ways:

Yes, it is compatible.  Z97 is backward compatible with Haswell, whereas Z87 requires a BIOS update (for Haswell).

or

Yes, it is compatible.  Z97 is backward compatible with Haswell, whereas Z87 requires a BIOS update (for Haswell Refresh).

I know you meant the latter, but the sentence you wrote (as of itself) actually suggests Haswell.
