So I ended up getting some new RAM for christmas. I had asked for a 2x4 pair but instead they surprised me with 2 2x4 so I now have 16GBs of RAM. I have never really known the full purpose of RAM and was wondering if anyone could tell me what RAM does for a computer. Before today I only had a 2x2 pair (4GB)

the amount of ram you have dictates how much stuff you can have open at one time. each piece of software that you are using takes up some ram so the more the merrier

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

its just really fast storage for your CPU.

it is only used for actively running programs that need to store stuff like small bits of data.

you only need lots if youre using lots of programs at the same time, or programs that use a lot of memory such as video editing.

more does not make your computer faster.

You crazy? New games take up to 8GB RAM. 12 GB should be recommended.

i have never heard 12gigs reccomended and a 3 dim setup is not efficent
