Cooling a Toaster

Since my Mobo only has 1x cpu cooler port and 1x 3-pin fan port. I was thinking of getting something like this to have more fans

Multisleeved Molex to 3 x 3-pin 12V Fan Adapter or would I only need the 5V version. I plan on using 2-3 120mm fans depends on the temperatures of my pc. Thanks ^_^

Here I was expecting a water cooled toaster guide. :(

To answer your question most fans should run on 5V although you may have some issues. The voltage will depend on how fast you want the fans to run.

You may want to consider getting a fan splitter so you can still control the fans with the motherboard. Link

That depends on your preferred noise level an the type of fans you use.

running all fans at full speed can get really annoying, especially if you use ones that aren't optimized for silence. Also usually only higher quality fans start at 5V.

Probably your best bet is to use the 7V version so your fans don't run at full speed and are actually starting.

I got the 7v version and plugged it into my powersupply with one of my fans as soon as I start my computer it turns on then off again. Do you know why this would happen?

Strange. So they start but then stop again? how long do they run?

Is your fan PWM controlled and has 4 wires?

If yes, then they might not work with 7V.

its almost instant then they turn off and when I turn off my computer it spins randomly then stops. No I think my fan has 3 wires and ports.

Can you tell me, which fans exactly you're using? If you're not sure take a picture of their label.

Edit: do they work if you plug them directly into your motherboard?

I am using the ones that came with my Antec one gaming case. I also bought some extra value fans. I tired plugging it into my mobo I don't remember if it worked, but it wanted me to plug back my old one in.

Those fans are not particularly designed for being used at 7V, but some reviewers on newegg state, that theirs are working.

Try plugging in just one fan and see if it runs. Test all other fans individually. If none of them works you probably need to RMA that cable.

So it should work If I  get the 12v version, because I don't really care about how loud the fans are. I game with a headset on anyway.
