Hi so I'm a bit confused. I saw in my Windows Task Manager that my ram says its as 1333mhz, I was told previously to enable XMP in the BIOS. I went to the BIOS and it says disabled. When I click on it there's no option for me to do anything, I can't enable it.

Thoughts? Specs in sig.

Edit: Another weird thing is in BIOS it says my memory is at 1860 something, can't remember exact number. My memory is 1866hmz, I think it was like 1863 in BIOS. Anyways I thought this was just odd it says in BIOS the ram is basically full speed but XMP is disabled, and task manager says it's lower than listed.

Current PC build: [CPU: Intel i7 8700k] [GPU: GTX 1070 Asus ROG Strix] [Ram: Corsair LPX 32GB 3000MHz] [Mobo: Asus Prime Z370-A] [SSD: Samsung 970 EVO 500GB primary + Samsung 860 Evo 1TB secondary] [PSU: EVGA SuperNova G2 750w 80plus] [Monitors: Dual Dell Ultrasharp U2718Qs, 4k IPS] [Case: Fractal Design R5]

Clear CMOS, and enter the BIOS on your first boot to see if XMP is available to select.

If it won't work it will be possible to manually enter the clock speed, voltage and timings into the BIOS.

What is the model of motherboard, and what is the model of the RAM DIMMs you are using?

it seems Kingstons HyperX do not have XMP profiles

http://www.pcgameware.co.uk/reviews/memory-ram/hyperx-fury-8gb-1866mhz-memory-review/

I am using the HyperX Black Fury on a H97 and I am stuck to 1600MHz instead of 1866MHz

H97 chipset only supports up to 1600MHz

for your case on the Z97-A

set it to Auto and the BIOS will apply the 1866MHz speed

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

As you probably know the XMP profile is not a guareteed,   So, don't be dissapointed if it doesn't work.

But, yeah, clear CMOS and see if it works.  But the XMP profile are just overclocking, so you can do it manually if you want.

it seems Kingstons HyperX do not have XMP profiles

I thought the auto setting just disabled XMP.  But okay.

check your memory speed in windows using cpuz. not task manager

maybe try to use the +\- buttons in the bios to enable or select xmp

set to auto and apply the settings

restart and see if the CPU-Z ID shows the RAM at the correct speed

if not just take out one of the stick of RAM and read the spec and later enter the speed and timing settings manually

Says DRAM frequency 932.8hmz in CPUz, but doesn't that change depending on what you're doing? Like CPU underclocking when you are idle for example. It keeps updating in real time usually just after the decimal point.

Says 932hmz in CPUz, but doesn't that change depending on what you're doing? Like CPU underclocking when you are idle for example.

oh you are running 1866

coz 932 is single rate speed

double will be 932x2 MHz

no it does not downclock

God...do you mind explaining this to me? I have heard this stuff before I just don't get how it works but I would like to learn so I know how to read my system..

DDR = Double Data Rate

CPU-Z shows the single data rate speed

the reason why they call RAM as DDR RAM is because the data is transmitted in the leading and trailing edge of the clock

when the cpu idles and down clocks it does not affect the memory bandwidth it merely reduces the cpu multiplier.

your memory does not downclock whether your idle or under load. it always stays the same. on all platforms.

the slight fluctuation after the decimal point is the bclk jumping around a little bit. its not even 1mhz. dont worry about it.

Alright so in CPU-z my DRAM frequency should always be HALF of what my memory is listed at? So like 1600mhz memory would show up as 800hmz in CPU-z?

Alright thanks for the help...I guess I'm good then and my ram is running at the speed it should be. I guess it's just weird Windows Task Manager reads it as lower, you would think that it would be accurate.

not just you.

we see lots of people using windows task manager as a hardware monitoring tool.

its inadequate. refrain from using it to monitor hardware.

I usually use it to monitor ram usage or CPU usage if I'm running a stress tests or something, I think the graphs are pretty accurate for that kinda stuff. Other than for those things I don't really use it at all unless ending a process.
