I'm planing to build a PC for the purpose of rendering video through Premier Pro/Avid Media and Gaming. What I'd like to know is that if it would it be worth it to move up to a i7/Xeon to reduce render times and how much of a performance delta would we see in an i7/Xeon? Also, any other comments on this build? Thanks.

*Note this doesn't include a PC case and the extra budget is currently set aside for that.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($188.88 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($70.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X Video Card  ($278.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)  ($89.98 @ OutletPC)
Total: $828.81
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

what resolution are you palying on?

if your monitor is 1080p you could get a 280/x, that will be enough.

get windows on g2a.

get the 1231v3. it is basically an 4770 without the igpu and will help with render times a lot.

@nth_derivative

What is the extra budget for a case? Why intel? Give us more info

No more than $100 for the case.  This isn't really a concern because the 850 is focus of the cost of the build, excluding the case.

This is good, I'm curious if the Xeon would actually provide a benefit to lowering render times.

it will, in rendering it will perform as good as intel 8 core without hyperthreading, its basically a i7
