Im thinking on buyin a NAS for my documents and stuff that I have arround, but I just can´t decide what to go for

The Business Storage 2-Bay NAS from seagate on amazon they say that it is Mediocre hardware, buggy software, terrible interface design and nonexistent documentation, there are alot of complains managing your own files and etc etc...

And the Personal Cloud Storage My Book Live from WesternDigital they say that the write and read speeds are terrible slow it takes forever to upload files especially if you have alot to back up, it is slower than an USB 2.0 interface www

and also I think this solution is really old

so I dont know what to do should I wait for a better solution?? I dont want to spend more than $300 USD 3Tb or 4Tb is fine for me

Buy a cheap motherboard with at least 2 SATA ports. SATA 2 or SATA 3 means nothing for this.

Same with a CPU, Case, and RAM.

Build a system, install FreeNAS on it.

Buy whatever HDD's you want (1-4TB's are preferred in RAID 1).

You can trade out the 3TB for whatever size you want (total) and get another one to put into RAID 1 later.

Single drive or Dual drive NAS will almost always have poor performance due to super low end hardware in them (I'm talking about the CPU, RAM, etc.).  Even the home office caliber 4-bay NAS tend to be a little on the slow side.  If you want cheap, build your own file server like Vitalius suggested.  If you're willing to spend a bit more look into some of the smaller SMB NAS devices from companies like Synology or QNAP.  You'll have to supply your own HDDs though.

That makes it easier to RMA imo.

If you get a 2 drive bay NAS and one dies prematurely (first month of use or so), I can imagine that being a hassle to deal with since you'd buy it as a package deal kinda thing.
