Only four concurrent AMD GPU per system, NVIDIA however doesn't have this limiation. So no, only 2 295x2

I'm fairly certain any amount of GPUs will work, the only limitation being the amount of PCI-E slots you have, it's just that CrossFireX won't be supported. 

So if I'm not completely idiotic and am actually correct, than you should be able to have up to 8 R9 295X2s, if you really wanted to watch the world burn.

Nope your wrong I think you can get it to 8 GPUs in a GPGPU cluster.

You can only get it to 8 GPUs because AMD openCL only allows 8 at thee same time.

Right, never knew that, I was aware that you could have a maximum of 8 GPU cards, and so I thought that was because of the amount of PCI-E slots. Thanks for clearing that up.
