SLI 780 vs SLI 970

murpup569

I bought my 780 for $500 before the 970 came out.

I was plaing on getting another one.

How much of a diference would it be if I sold my 780 and buy two 970?

performance wise the 970 will be marginally better if you can get a good overclock on one, otherwise it will be the same. The difference is that one has 4gb of Vram vs, the 780s 3gb, which will matter more above 1080p, and very likely become pretty beneficial even at 1080p.

Id say if you already have a 780 just get the second since the 780 and 970 are essentially the same in performance

Well the 970 in SLI will have better power efficient and heat output, as well as a small performance boost as the 970 is equivelant to the 780 Ti. What resolution will you be running?

In all the benchmarks I've seen the 970 is halfway between the 780 & 780 ti, not equivalent to either really

Considering the 970 is cheaper and runs with less power than the 780 and 780ti i'd say it'd be a better option for you. If you can sell your 780(ti) for how much you bought it you'd probably be able to buy two 970's for abit cheaper than buying two new 780's or 780 ti's.

Also, take into consideration that the 970 performs around the same as a 780 ti, so either way doesnt really matter.

Just in the long run, the 970 will be cheaper on your wallet.
