Hey everyone! The other a friend of my got a few new things for his computer (mobo/cpu/ram) and ever since he put it together he's been unable to play any games. The system seems to run fine, but once he opens a game the frame rate instantly becomes unplayable. We've made sure all the drivers are updated but can't figure what the issue is. His spec's are:

AMD FX-6300

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3

8GB Kingston DDR3-1600

Nvidia GTS 250 - Though it was his card at first, but it ran games fine before the build.

650w PSU - Not sure what the exact model is.

Could his previous installation of Windows 7 be causing the issue? Possibly need a bios update? Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Could MAYBE be the GPU, it is very old and could be bottle necking the rest of your build but it should still play them. what do you mean unplayable? bad frame rates?

Bad frame rates. He's said that even Mincraft runs at an unplayable FPS. While the card is pretty dated, he was able to run the games he was currently playing prior to getting the new parts.

Ya but if the bottle neck is as bad as i think it is that sounds close to right.

Thanks for the replies everyone. For drivers he's running everything downloaded for the mobo from Gigabytes website, he also mentioned that he reinstalled the graphics drivers from Nvidia's site. He's going to bring the system over tomorrow and try a different card since I have a HD 6770 sitting on my desk.
