$3000 build NEED HELP!

Go to solution Solved by nishank93,

Congratulations on typing all that with an XBox controller!
Get more RAM (no reason why, a 2*8GB kit will serve you well), Get an AX860i instead of the AX1200 (You don't need 1200W). Get the 840 Pro (Faster). Get Windows 8 (Faster).

EDIT: I agree with some posts here. Get a 780 first, and add another later if you think it is holding you back.

Im building my first system I have put months into research and planning and ill be doing months more until Agust I have a list of parts I have chosen below and keep in mind im typing with a xbox controller so expect type-o's

Where are you purchasing your components I personally wouldn't get a sabertooth board I would get a more overclock centric board given your budget. And I also would hold off on SLi till you feel you absolutely need that horsepower show me 3-5 screens at 2560x1600 and then maybe you'd want it.

I like you route but mine makes sence to me buy a custom loop now and avoid furture hassle of removing a H100i and trashing it or remove 8gb ram and add a new SSD thanks for the input though!

Yea nothing wrong with a custom loop however you still run into the maintenance aspect. Every 6 months or so you'll want to empty out your loop which may require you to remove everything to be safe. Also remember 840 PRO not non pro with your SSD 3k on a setup shouldn't skimp on the cheaper NAND flash.

You don't need a 1200 psu. As linus always says 1 better graphics card is better than 2 worse ones. I would recommeend a single 780 and upgrade later. If you live near a microcenter, you can get a 4770k for $280 and $40 off the motherboard. Use pc parts picker it is really helpful for getting the best prices and planning a build. Also you can use any usb keyboard to type on an xbox 360 :D YOu also probably don't need to do a custom loop for a first build, they take some work or an 800d.

Edit: Get a mechanical keyboard. Huge differeence. You can get cherry mx blues at monoprice for $50

Hmm for me personally for stability sake I would go with the 780 since its a baby Titan card. However if you feel the need for two 770's be my guest.

What are you planning on using this for? There could be a variety of ways you could better optimize this system for gaming, or for editing. For editing, get more RAM and maybe go for the x79 chipset. For gaming, all you really need is an i5 4670k.

Im planning on using it for high performace gaming

Yea I kind of agree it may be a bit more then what you would want to do as a first build. I mean I would probably go the way of a NH-D14 no maintenance other then probably canned air. custom loops are nice in practice but I wouldn't want to deal with the maintenance that goes along with it.

4670k

Z87 board like (MSI gaming, Asus, gigabyte etc)

H100i or NH-D14

8gb 1600Mhz

GTX 780

Corsair 860i (Ski and oc headroom)

Case of your choose

840 Pro 128Gb

1Tb WD black.

My only thing would be to get a bigger ssd, also I love ocz's revodrive, it is amazing fast and I love filling up my pci lanes. Also a soundcard would be good.

All depending on the user. If the love High quality audio and want to drop $150+ on headphones they can. Fulling up the pci-e lanes isn't always the best idea deep ding on the setup. I have never used a revo-drive so I can't comment. A bigger SSD is always nice but yeah its pricey.

If he is saying 2 x 770 (for now) I would think he might upgrade.. And then a ~800watt psu is not enough..

But I would say, got on 780 now, and then another in a while..

get the 900D maybe?

a mechanical keyboard!! :D

someone suggested the 840 Pro.. But as the read speeds are almost the same, I dont think he would notive the difference from the non-pro to the pro version.

I would love a revodrive, but to be realistic, gamers would never need it! Heavy video editing with really huge files, then it would be good.

A 2560x1440 monitor would also be justified in this case! :D

(Comming soon)

One more comment haha you don't need a payed anti virus software, plenty of good free ones and nobody uses a cd drive anymore. If you really want one feel free, but the are ugly wastes of space

I will agree about the DVD drive. I have Kaspersky and its amazing and I always like having the extra security over free AVs

The writes are slower and the NAND is more vulnerable to derogation over time more so then the 840 pro.

840 non pro=TLC flash (LOWER END)

840 pro= MLC (PREMIUM FLASH)
