Cant decide between 970's or 980

===PCtyc00n===

So right now im in the progress of building this monster http://pcpartpicker.com/p/TPjjLk

and im stuck at the video cards

I am custom watercooling with 2 560mm radiators so i plan to get 1500 mhz out of either card

Ik Linus said go SLI 970's but I wonder how do they perform in surround + 1 auxiliary monitor

I plan to play fps games as well as spend most my life on this machine [hence the expense]

Anyway to point what do you suggest for surround?

970's or a 980[one for now]?

Also since I usually buy used I can get them for these prices

dual 970's = 600

980 = 450-500

thanks

Gaming wise yeah the SLI 970 might be better but I don't recall seeing that large of an advantage over the 980, I'm not really a gamer; I am going to be a content creator so I'd probably be better off with like a FirePro or Quadro than I would a 980 but the 980 is cheaper.

Dual 970s will give better performance over a single 980, but getting a single 980 and another one later offers better performance than SLI 970s.

I would go with a single 980 now and get another one later.

For NV-Surround either will do fine, but the 970s will perform better than the 980.

I forget the exact benchmarks, but I would think that 2-way 970s outperform a single 980 or am I wrong?

Would I get substantially better performance running 2 980s later[say a month or two from now]?

i wont have to build anything except the pc really, i can put a piece of wood on the rollers for the drawer. and replace the top piece of wood with some strong plastic/glass.

Not a very significant performance boost, I'd say ~10-15% more performance over SLI 970s.

Basically if you want more power now get the 970s, but if you want room to upgrade and potentially more power later on get the single 980.
