Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade...

Go to solution Solved by GoodBytes,

You can do a clean install of Windows 7 Upgrade.

Follow method two. Basically, all you do, is change a registry variable to say that a previous version of Windows was detected, then you activate Windows.

These are instructions I got from Microsoft support when I bought Windows 7 Pro Upgrade on day 1 when it was on special, and I got a new HDD at the same time.

Hey guys recently built my pc and as I was installing windows I only just noticed that the disk that I purchased was an upgrade and not for use on a clean install. I used a generic code to install Windows 7 then tried again to use my code for Ultimate but it still didn't register as it is suppose to be used on a Vista copy of Windows. Should I just call windows Activation services for Australia and sort this out or is their an alternate root other than formatting my hard drive and using a usb flash drive to install a pirated version of vista to upgrade from?

Thanks but I did a little bit more researching and I found this article really helpful with #3 side step for upgrade version. http://www.mydigitallife.info/clean-install-windows-7-with-upgrade-media-and-product-key-on-formatted-or-empty-blank-hard-drive/
