Quick CPU Motherboard Questions

Go to solution Solved by Laputacake,

MSI Z97 G55 SLI

This winter I'm going to be upgrading from my old school Phenom x6 1075t to a Xeon E3 1231V3, and had picked a handful of motherboards to run along side it.

I know the Xeon supports ecc memory, but correct me if i am wrong but it doesn't REQUIRE it correct?

Anyway, assuming that here's a couple motherboards I was going to choose between, please feel free to correct me if they are missing some sort of hidden requirement.

If you have any other mobo suggestions feel free to post em as well, what i need is support for 2 graphics cards (3 Optimally so i can run my 8800gtx as a physx chip) and a sound card optimally (but not required). As well as built in optical port.

It should depend on the mobo and if you are not buying specialized server boards, I think it should support both normal and ecc ram

Xeon's dont require ECC memory but consumer grade mobos don't also support it.. i would suggest Gigabyte or Asus motherboards personally also maybe have a look at an i7 over a xeon unless you think a xeon will be better for your needs

Yes Yes Legalize Gay Marriage sure, but have you ever considered Weaponizing Gay?

For the price and for what i do it's the best option. Need good single core performance for gaming, and the capacity to keep up with the heavy multitasking i run. I looked at a couple i7 chips, but the cost of the newer mobo and higher cost to get similar performance is just too high. I'm still a student and can only allocate so much towards this kind of stuff ye'know? xD

yea makes sense im pree much in the same situation, the mobo won't affect "performance" as such linus did a video about this and xeons can be a great choice im probably going with one next time. i was just suggesting the i7 so you have the ability to oc and what not :3

Yea i would have like the capacity to overclock and some of the gaming features that the i7 has over the Xeons, but when it comes down to it we all gotta make compromises
