Hello everyone! I have a problem with my build right now and I need your advice.

Basically, I have a p8z68-V/Gen 3 Motherboard with a i5 2500k. I recently bought Gigabyte GTX 970 and I plan on getting another one in the future for SLI. I also have a Asus Xonar STX in my MB as well.

Here is my problem. If I have 2 GPUs and a Sound Card, can I put a capture card in the PCIe 2.0 x16_3 slot? Does that affect bandwidth at all (as in does it affect my GPU performance/bandwidth?)

Here is a picture of my motherboard: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z68VGEN3/

------------

Again, my Sound Card is in the PCIe 2.0 x1 slot on the top.

My GPU is in the first PCIe x16 slot (the blue one), and plan to get another GTX 970 to put it in the second PCIe x16 slot (the gray one).

I purchased a capture card but I do not have another PCIe x1 slot to put it in (since my GPU blocks the second one.)

So, could I put my capture card in the black PCIe 2.0 x16_3 slot (the black one)? And does it affect my GPUs performance? In the ASUS manual it said the IRQ assignment is the first two PCIe x16 slots are shared on "A" with USB 3.0 controller and I.G.D.

On the other hand, the 3rd x16 slot is shared on "B."

Hopefully you guys could solve my dilemma and thanks in advance! (hopefully I provided enough information!)

P.S I forgot to mention, my capture card is Avermedia Live Gamer HD PCIe. Hopes that helps as well!

SLI requires x8 for both cards and your CPU only has 16 PCI-E lanes. Although most mobos have PCI-E hubs to help with more PCI devices, these hubs don't actually provide and more bandwidth. So your GPU bandwidth will be limited when you are using the capture card. My recommendation is to get a USB capture card or use shadowplay.

I've built 3 PC's, but none for myself... In fact, I'm using an iMac that my dad bought for me as my desktop. Awkward...

Please don't say "SSD drive." By doing so, you are literally saying "Solid State Drive Drive" and causing my brain cells to commit suicide. The same applies to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express).

Boink is more or less right. If you want a capture card, try the AverMedia live gamer portable
