so my mate just got a MSI R9 280x and he put it in the computer and he said it clicked in to the PCIe slot and he also put the power cables in but there but there was nothing on screen not even the post screen but the computer beeped like normal also he tired it on another screen

what motherboard does he have?

 

He probably has to flash the cmos there should be a pinhole button on the back of his motherboard

he all ready had a AMD gpu in there and he is now using the old one what would that do any way?

his motherboard is probably still putting out the video through the integrated video card which i am assuming he was using before. This article tells you the multiple ways he can reset it

no he was using an old amd GPU dont know what it is but he is using that know

brand new 600W from corsair and its powering his current GPU just fine 

Lets try this, have him plug in the old amd gpu, get to the desktop, and uninstall the AMD graphics drivers. Go through the uninstall process, (he may need to restart to apply the uninstall) then once that process is done, remove the old amd gpu, and install the new GPU. See if it will output video then.

i don't think its that because the bios post screen didn't show up and that dose not require drivers

Right, the old drivers could be conflicting with the new card, hence why it's not displaying anything. It may be posting just fine, you just can't see it because the gpu is not displaying it. Give what i said a try, and see if that fixes it.
