AMD FX 9590

Go to solution Solved by Mentalguy,

you need a top tier 990fx mobo, something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131877

so im asking this only for a little bit of information. i want to possibly upgrade my CPU to a 9590 OVER an 8350. i have an R9 290 and my Power supply is 700w, Can i keep my psu with that core, and xfx 290. 12gb gskill ram? or would i need to upgrade, i know the 290 cards say min 500w, but i believe i saw that the 290 uses 300-330? somewhere along those lines? and the 9590 is 220. IDK if i would up to that core. i just was curious if my PSU could actually handle that? i mean i  am already water cooled, i know it needs that, H80i and i know that its just for higher OC's. and im just looking to get the best i can and be set for a while, i know the 8350 is nice ive owned one before, but the 9590 is just newer and looks to preform quite nicely.

As much as I hate people who say these kinds of things - I couldn't agree more.

what is your full pc specs, fx9590s have limited cpu support. If it something you really want and are able to leverage (do not buy one of these of you are only using lightly threaded apps), i can vouch for it, i like mine.

ok well currently, CPU Athlon X4 640, MSI 970 G series Motherboard, 2 GSKILL sniper ram sticks and 1 Corsiar XMS stick for 12gb ram at 1333, i will match the gskill when i get a chance to, XFX R9 290, Corsair GS700 700w PSU, and i have an H80i on my CPU so its ready to go with water cooling. i know its completely rhetorical but i want to know if i need to up my PSU if i would plan to get one lol and any other info on it that anyone has i want to know!

your motherboard wont handle it, it'd barely run a 8350oc, the psu is good though. id recommend going with intel i5 on this one since you need a new mobo anyway.

so im asking this only for a little bit of information. i want to possibly upgrade my CPU to a 9590 OVER an 8350.

Either take FX 83XX or go Intel. FX 9XXX is bad decision.

A 9590 is not a smart choice, it's just a binned 8350 and they don't even have any OC headroom because they are so heavily clocked out of the gate. Besides there are only a few motherboards capable of juicing that chip, if you have a board that can't cope you'll burn it out. Just get an 8320/8350 and overclock it.

Its a new board but it will not handle the 9590. You can put the 8350 at most.

You're making a mistake if you go with an FX. You're going to end up paying more, getting worse performance, and bottleneck your GPU. Get a locked i5, it will cost less and perform better.

not quite, if he had a beefy mobo already, it would be decent.

Not only motherboard is concern. He still would have to put a good dollar into cooling. And the ren result would not be much better than FX 83XX, not even talking about Intel.

he has enough cooling for it, and the 9590 can be up to 25% faster in apps than the 8350

Me and the OP messaged last night, it now seems like he is gonna wait a bit.

I'd say go through MicroCenter and snag a i5 4690K paired w/ a mobo of your choice and will still be far less than $500 :thumb:  even if you go w/ a 4790k w/ board it'll still be under the $500 mark

I support your decision to go AMD over Intel.  Nobody should be buying intel anymore after they came out publicaly in being AGAINST net neutrality... those corrupt assholes can go to hell and die
