How's the performance of a single 970 at 1440p? I was planning on getting the ROG Swift but i only have one GPU atm. I have a 1080p monitor now and i cant decide if i should get a 2nd 970 now and then the monitor or the monitor now and the 2nd 970 along the road.

NOTE:Since at 1440p the difference between high and ultra is negligible i want to play games on high no MSAA at 45+ fps

Plenty http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1355

Most games get 40-50+ fps average at ultra so you should be able to get consistent 60+ at high no AA.

wow, the 970 is stronger than i thought :P

looks like ill buy the monitor first then the second GPU

Thats a pretty cool site do you know of a site that shows benchmarks like that for multi monitor setups?

Dude the 970 is a beast it beats the old 780 in a lot of benchmarks on games. Plus if you really think about it the 980 is the go to card for 4k gaming the 970 is the go to card for 2k(i.e. 1440p) gaming and the un-announced 960 should be the go to card for 1080p gaming.

lol why do you think every time on this site when someone says something about getting a 980 most people reply get two 970s instead. I personally am hoping the rumors on the 960 arent true and it will actually have 3-4 gigs of vram and be just 20-25% less performing than the 970 because I want 3 1920x1080p monitors on my setup that i plan to build come late february to early march and i would like to save $175-225 on buying two 960s rather than two 970s and still get 55+ fps on 3 monitors.

i would say 1 970 is pretty slow even at 1440p. i would definitely pick up 2 if you want 144fps.

Yes it does me personally I am happy sticking to 1080p till the cost of 2k/4k monitors comes down to where 1080p ones are now and gpu's are able to drive multi-monitor setups easily at those resolutions. Being how the transition from 720p to 1080p was I believe we are looking at another 1-2 years until that happens. Which is no problem at all for me since I dont plan to upgrade my rig after i build it for at least 2-3 years.

well the whole point was to see what the performance of a single 970 was at 1440p and based on the answers i would see if its better to buy the monitor first or the 2nd 970
