Go to solution Solved by The Pizza Thief,

Hi guys, as the newbie I am I almost bought an Intel Core i7-4790k for a z87 motherboard, not knowing the chipset does any difference. So I was wondering if anyone would be so kind to tell me, if there is anything I should be aware of or change or anything for my build, so I will write all of the components.

Case: Antec Twelve Hundred v3 - using the 6 fans which comes with the case

Mobo: ASUS Maximus VII Hero

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790k

RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3-1866 DC 16 GB (2x8GB)

GPU: I'm stuck between the GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 970 G1 and SAPPHIRE Vapor-x r9 290x tri-x (UEFI (what ever that means))

Storage 1: Samsung EVO SSD 250 GB

Storage 2: Seagate Desktop SSHD - 2TB

Power suply unit: Corsair RM850 Gold (maybe I'll overclock somethings and add a graphics card so I have two of which ever I pick, therefor I don't know how much power I need)

Also I'm not aware which cables comes with what components and I don't know what cables I have to buy myself.

Thank you for your help :)

My Build Here https://pcpartpicker.com/b/BjBPxr same stuff... You don't have to buy any more cables. I recommend going with the G1. Pretty solid build, you choose the same PSU structure as me, people say its a bad psu.

Go for the 970. Everything else seems good. Also, an SSHD is a waste of money in my opinion. I would just get a 2tb wd blue and match it with that ssd as a boot drive. But if money isn't a problem then go for it.

GTX 970 is the best choice but the R9 290X is solid if it is a lot cheaper, I would advise you buy the Evga 750G2 for the 970 or 850G2 for the 290X since both are considered better than the RM series

Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.2Ghz | Evga GTX 780 Ti SC ACX with backplate | MSI Gaming 9 AC | 8GB (2x4) Corsair Vengeance Pro Silver 2400 MHz | Corsair H105 128GB Crucial MX100 | Toshiba 2TB | Evga 750G2 | Corsair Obsidian 750d | Be Quiet Silent Wings 2 PWM (3x140mm & 3x120mm)

In case I decide to overclock the CPU and two GPUs running 6 fans and one for CPU will 750 be enough?

If you go for 2 970s then 750W yes easily, 2 290Xs you would want at least 850W maybe even 1000W

What if I chose 2 970's or later maybe even upgraded to 3? (Yes I am aware that I would require a new mobo)

i would suggest a cheaper motherboard perhaps the Z97-E, Z97-A or Z97-AR from asus are likely to have all the features you need at a much more reasonable price...motherboard won't affect performance and/or overclocking anymore.

If you wan't it red and black look at the MSI Z97-G45 gaming or MSI Z97 Gaming 5 motherboards they are very good as well.

| CPU: Core i7-8700K @ 4.89ghz - 1.21v  Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING  CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 |
| GPU: MSI RTX 3080Ti Ventus 3X OC  RAM: 32GB T-Force Delta RGB 3066mhz |
| Displays: Acer Predator XB270HU 1440p Gsync 144hz IPS Gaming monitor | Oculus Quest 3 VR
