Alright so basically I had this cooler with a different motherboard originally (GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD3H) on my new build. I started having problems with the boards on-board audio after a week and was forced to RMA the board. Instead of getting a replacement I decided to upgrade to a more premium board (Asus P8Z77-V Pro). Ever since I switched I've been having horrible temperatures with the H100i. On the Gigabyte board I was able to reach a stable overclock of 4.5Ghz at 1.30 vcore easily with a max load temp of around 65C. After switching to the new board I went straight for the same settings and was unsuccessful due to the temps going well above 90C on load. Basically the highest overclock I can get now is about 4.1Ghz with max temps around 75C. It should also be noted that on the original board I was using the default paste on the H100i, but I switched to Artic Silver 5 with the new board.

I've tried re-seating and re-applying the paste several times, with no differences in temps. I've tried varying amounts of paste using the 'pea' method. Nothing seems to bring those temps back down to where it used to be, and I'm getting frustrated. Is there a huge burn in period for the AS5 that I need to know about?

System Specs:

Intel i7 3770k

Asus P8Z77-V Pro

16gb Ram

Nvidia Gtx 680

Corsair 650D Case

850 Watt PSU

Any suggestions guys? Thanks in advance.

asus and gigabyte use different terminalogy on EFI tweaks.

you prolly ahve alot of auto settings that need manual attention.

first move would be to benchmark on stock to verify mount (which there

is prolly no issue). then find a guide to your board and follow the overclock.

sounds like you have the volts too high and the VDROOP (LLC in asus) too

extreme or auto.

i'd say your overclock is needing better attention.. but baseline it first.

Less AS5 man.. Use the line technique on IB's because the die is rectangle. Also tighten that h100 as tight as you can. After you clean your chip and block, clean it again with coffee filter, let it dry for 10 mins then apply AS5 in a 1mmx12mm line from top to bottom on the chip.

AS5 does have a burn in time of 200 hours.

I have the same Mobo (vpro) and recently did an RMA on my H100 - they sent me an H100i and I have the same problem as you! I have a 4.7 clock reaching no higher than low 70s with 1.3 vcore and now after installing the H100i my temps have shot up into the 90s. So maybe it is the board as my H100 was working very nicely until I installed the H100i. Very annoying.

Are the fans actually ramping up in speed as your heat increases? They should be pretty noticable at those temps....
