I have a i3 3220 (Highest sku of i3) and a 770, I play games like Battlefield and Titanfall just fine.

If you're not going over 1080p you don't really need a 970, unless you want to absolutely max out games with AA at 40-60 fps. And either way your CPU is really going to hold things back, especially in complex games like GTA or AC, so your big GPU won't be able to stretch it's legs anyway. Go with a 760 or an R9 285 and a better CPU, then upgrade the GPU later if you desire. If you're on a super tight budget, you know the G3258 is a fantastic option and won't bottleneck in most games today.

That was a bold statement to make. It's in fact worse than the i3-4150 in modern gaming even at 4.8 GHz. Frequencies cannot justify two extra threads when most games today are optimized for quad cores.

Well I obviously haven't used either of those CPUs, but I did some research while planning my build, and i3 4150 didn't have any advantage over the G3258, especially when it's overclocked, in gaming or in benchmarks. But well, even if the performance is bad on the G3258, it's still a hell of CPU for the money.
