Rubbing alchohol replacement?

Go to solution Solved by ImBleu,

Use coffee filters instead because they leave no paper residue compared to toilet paper.

But if coffee filters aren't available, kitchen roll will work well enough, I used only a few drops of water (don't overdo it) and kitchen roll, worked good enough that my i5-4670k worked around the same as it did prior to removing the CPU cooler.

honestly just water and a MICROFIBRE cloth works - did in my case at least. You could always find a woman and ask if they have nail varnish / polish remover too.

Pure alcohol is best. The reason being that almost everything else will leave some residue behind. Nail polish is fine though as far as I know.

Never use anything like vodka or stuff like that. It will look clean but won't be.

A microfiber cloth might even be able to clean your cpu without any alcohol. At least better than some half Ass liquid for cleaning.

Microfiber*

No but seriously, water and toilet paper/microfiber cloth should work fine, just make sure it's [CPU] completely dry.

So, water and toilet paper is fine as long as I make sure the CPU is completely dry?

In theory it sounds like it'll work, and CoolBlueKidd says it worked for him, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Just don't put too much water, a tiny amount will likely be fine. And don't rub the shit out of your CPU with the toilet paper or else it'll break into very little pieces; the toilet paper, of course.

But--- if you want to be sure about it, just wait until you can get some alcohol.

Ok, apparently you can use kitchen roll (less dust than toilet roll) to clean it off without any liquid. Just keep on rubbing. Should this be fine as long as I be careful with any parts of it falling off?

Dosent really matter that much, the pc im doing it on is only a test one anyways. I'll just put a tiny bit of water onto a bit of kitchen roll (apparently less dusty) and rub, leave to dry and expelliarmus?

That or microfiber cloth. Both work well.

I don't have any of that, I don't think my town would either. I can't even find rubbing alcohol in it, only white spirit, thus this thread was born

Would a wash flannel be OK?

That thing will leave lint residue. Unless it's like brand new and very lightly used.

Ok, I've cleaned it all (including the Heatsink and the Heatsink's fan), and I'm going to leave it overnight on a bit of kitchen roll. Then, in the morning, I'm going to install it, put on the MX-2, put on the Heatsink, put on the fan and voila! ?
