Best choice for overclocking

Decided to install the Freezer 7 only to find that idle temps were 10oC higher, and the maximum stable overclock was lowered to 3.7GHz. So it seems I should have stuck with the original cooler.

I recently bought a Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 for use with my i5 4440, but once I started overclocking my older core 2 duo and saw the temps (73oC full load with case side on) I was unable to decide whether to keep using the P4 cooler on it (solid aluminum block-type) or to use my new cooler instead. Which one should I use as I don't want to have to drop the OC so that the temps lower.

Which system to do value more? Use the better cooled on that one.

I'm not as concerned about the i5 (I just wanted something quieter-and the i5 can't OC so it won't benefit as much). My main problem is which one is better, as I don't want to waste any arctic silver on the freezer 7 if it doesn't actually work as well as the manufacturer states.
