Father wants a new laptop but he has bad vision so he'd like a bigger screen. Doesn't really matter the resolution, he just wants to enlarge the text so he can read it. I want him to have an SSD or the hybrid drive so he it feels much faster for him. He does mainly surf the web but he does occasionally need it for other tasks. Any suggestions?

Would you be willing to buy a machine with a HDD and install a SSD in it, or does it have to be premade? I only ask because I can't find any "cheap" systems with SSD's pre installed.

I believe I'm capable of doing it.

From reading the reviews the Acer looks like a pain to upgrade. The refurb Asus looks pretty good, but its also refurbished(not sure how you feel about that). The other Asus and Lenovo both are "average" computers, but the Lenovo costs more. As for the SSD's I chose ones that I think are popular, so you might find better ones/better deals, but these ones had good prices(IMO). If you only need 128Gb you can save some more money.

Hmm. I do like Asus products in general, but I'm not a big fan of refurbs. I'm thinking that second Asus you included looks pretty nice. They send the Windows key with these right for when I have to reinstall on the new SSD?

The Windows key should be stored in the bios(uEFI), so you should be able to install Windows and it will activate right away(well, after you establish an internet connection). If it doesn't, you can get the key from the old HDD(using Belarc Advisor or similar).
