will this build work?

Go to solution Solved by OhhTee,

Why not grab the GTX 970 instead of the R9 290x?

I would also replace the RM with a 750W G2 EVGA, it's a better PSU.

You could also grab an mx100 256 GB instead of that Intel 530 with another $20 or so.

Possibly change the h100i too if you're planning on using Windows 8.1. I heard there are software issues for the corsair link and also mounting issues.

in my current pc my psu died and took the mobo along with it, im going to replace the parts and sell that pc.

so im building a new computer and my question is, are the parts i choose going to work and are they worth the cost? or should i downgrade a few things and save some money and get the same performance. also I've never done water cooling before so any tips on that would be appreciated.

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/YRGrWZ

the parts i chose:

MSI Z97 gaming motherboard ($206)

Intel Core i5-4690K ($275)

Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB ($195)

MSI Radeon R9 290X ($413)

Corsair Hydro Series H100i CPU cooler ($137) tube of thermal paste aswell

Corsair RM Series RM750 ($150)

Seagate 3TB Barracuda HDD ($115)

Intel 530 Series 120GB SSD ($90)

NZXT Phantom 410 Mid Tower ($90)

Corsair SP120 fan twin pack ($34)

total comes to about $1750 before tax and S&H

im not looking to spend this much, but i don't really know what im doing either, this is only my second build.

any suggestions on what i could change or add?

thanks for any advice:)

also my current rig that im selling i was thinking of selling it, the keyboard and mouse for about $600

the specs:

AMD FD6300 3.5ghz

GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3

Corsair High Perform Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz2x4

Sapphire Radeon HD 7850

Ultra XBlaster Mid-Tower V2 Case

mod xstream 500w psu

razer blackwidow ultimate 2013

razer deathadder

thanks again:)

Seems good.

Next time use PCpartpicker.

AiO's are plug-n-play. No need to worry.

I would get a 240GB SSd. 120GB goes fast.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

i used pcpartpicker to make sure they were compatible, but i mainly want to know is this build overkill for just playing games on ultra and web browsing?or is it worth spending the extra little bit of money so i dont have to upgrade when games get even better?

yeah, i might be getting dual monitors aswell

Playing on both?

If not, you should be fine.

That is not considered overkill for a build meant to do what you're doing. It's pretty common to have a build with stuff like that.

Should be fine then. IMO 2* monitors looks strange for gaming.

Yeah, those bezels are gonna be in the exact center where your character's focus is. It's pretty annoying, until you get used to it. I guess.

never thought of that, i'll probably just stick to single monitor gaming

The GTX 970 has lower power consumption, more overclocking headroom, cheaper, and I believe it performs just a tad better than the r9 290x.

AND IT DOESN'T GET AS HOT RIOGNEROIGNER.

yupp, in the toronto area

Ah, I would grab the gigabyte gtx 970. What MSI Z97 board are you getting? Are you getting the gaming 7 or something? Seems a bit pricey.

this would be a great addition.

You may want to include the permalink of the pcpartpicker list in the OP. People are familiar with the layout so it makes it much easier for people to examine the list and play with options they might want to suggest.

For example, what are the specs on the 16GB of memory. BTW you really only need a 2x8GB DDR3-1600 CL 9 kit for gaming and general use.

GTX 970 have better gaming performance in most titles and are generally slightly less expensive. EVGA 04G-P4-2972-KR, Gigabyte GV-R929XOC-4GD, or Asus STRIXGTX970DC2OC4GD5 are all decent choices.

With a GTX 970 one does not need as large a psu. In fact 550W would be quite sufficient, 650W if SLI and gpu overclocking are desired. Antec HCG-620M, SeaSonic M12II 620 Bronze, or SeaSonic SSR-550RM would be good choices. (80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not psu quality.)

With the two fans on the H100i and two stock fans, I doubt two additional fans will be necessary.

Asus Z97-AR is a high quality motherboard and less expensive than the MSI in the OP.

Crucial CT240M500SSD1 is a decent 240GB ssd for the same price as the Intel in the OP.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

You can settle for the gaming 5, the only difference is that the 7 has more usb 3.0 and a display port and like no vga I think.

Might as well grab the 1866! It's probably the same price!

The Antec HCG 620M is built by Seasonic. It is a good choice if you want to save a few dollars. The EVGA 220-G2-0750-XR is a very good buy right now, but is more than you need and is around CA$25 more than the Antec. The two other Seasonics I linked are between the these two cost and quality wise. Any of these psu will do a good job for you.

BTW

i'll have to look into overclocking the cpu and gpu, if i overclock the gpu will i need to watercool that too? and i might go with one of the 650w's or the g2 750w depending on if i fell like cashing out the extra $30

Liquid cooling gpu will get a little more performance out of them but there is no need to go that far. GPU with non-reference coolers like the EVGA ACX 2.0, Asus Strix, and MSI Twin Frozr will give decent overclocks. But even gpu with reference coolers will generally overclock a bit.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
