A video sharing experiance, thoughts?

so for a while have been really sick of YouTube the way everything evolves around them earning enough money to keep the pockets lined with gold. the last 2 weeks i have been in deep thought about how i could try and come up with a solution for this idea. and i hope to discuss this with you i know every one will have their own opinion and that's fine! i have no issues with that, infact i want opinions!  so ill introduce myself, i'm 15 and i'm studying in computer since i can code in about 9 different languages. i have an aspiration on how i want to shape the future of the internet. Today all people care about is money, and that is wrong, it's about developing the best content at the best possible price! so i have what i believe is a good idea,i want to work with over the next 2 weeks off from school over Christmas my plan is to work everyday to gain some sort of prototype to work with and advertise (even Christmas day!). i want to create my own website similar to Vimeo or YouTube (over time of course)thats designed around the people rather than maximizing profits, so i know what your thinking just hurry up and get on with it! but one last thing until then the whole point of this thread is to discuss what the people (you guys) want, and that will give me something to work with.

 

At the moment i have a server i could in theory use to host but my speeds would bottleneck, i believe i could do this project over time but my only downfall is finance, i do believe a kick starter would work but i want a working demo and everything that goes along with it. my plan is to host from a laptop then to advertise and gain popularity then open a kick starter, i believe that about £2000 a year should cover my cost for the creation of this site, for web hosting, hdd's servers....

 

Here is my basic idea, i would like a website that has 2 options a free account and a paid account, with a free account you get a single, but short add at the start of your video but no adds anywhere else. with a paid account you get a button show up on every video along with a like and dislike and some sort of subscription with benefits, but the button will work like this, at the start of every month you deposit a set amount of money into your account suck as £5, if you enjoy a video you hit the button, and give it a score out of 10. at the end of the month your fixed payment at the start of the month will be dispersed at the correct amount depending on how you rated them. the money will then be passed on to the creator. this is effective because the people have a choice in what they see so you get Pewdiepie earning what the public believe that he should earn instead of his stats.. with the free account the money will be given because of the ad.

 

i want a slick looking design with a nice clean logo in the top left and the tabs like the following 

ACCOUNT | RECENTLY VIEWED | ACCOUNT BALANCE | EQUIVALENT TO SUBSCRIBERS | SETTINGS.

 

the second main reason is that there is a huge gap where nothing has been updated and i want to bring a fresh new website into the mix.

 

So what i want from you?

 

i want you to post suggestions, opinions and help. if you are interested in joining my idea then feel free send me a PM and we can discuss we can have chat groups and get this project off the ground. 

i would like a name suggestion and a name of an equivalent to a subscribers.

basically i want you to come up with the way this whole project will work.

I think that you have no idea how much data bandwidth is involved in video sharing service.

Maybe Im wrong.

What about copyright of videos that are stored on your server?

nope i know it takes a HUGE amount hence why i said my internet would be a bottle neck! and would need hosting externally.

External hosting with unlimited bandwidth is very very very expensive.

And combine that with storage thats one more very on those 3 verys.

I thought you wanted to spend that money on hdd and equipment for your server.

If 100,000 free members watched it and 100 paid members watched it, is your only way of judging if it was a good/bad video based on the ratings of at max 100 people (assume less since many might not rate)? Or are you going to rank based off of views?

okay ill try to explain the subscribers do not get perks its a way to get rid of ads and have a closer interaction with the creator.you will still have a like and dislike button a subscribe and a rate from 1-10 one.

by paid account i mean a bank transfers a set amount every month there is no sign up fee involved..

this gets quite complicated now, yes it depends how many videos you rank and how much you pay if you rate it a 2 they get 20% of what they would get if it was a 10% so if they put £5 in they would receive £1, so effectively its a percentage guide to how much they get. if you don't rate and you have money then the money gets put put into the company to improve customers experience. if you have no money then essentially its a free account therefor they have to watch adds.

But you dont need your own hdds if you have hosting. You cant have hosting only for bandwidth. All data will have to be stored on that hosting and maybe only backups on your side.

i totally agree, but big company's don't care what creators get paid and that's not fair i hope my system will be better for them? as i would not take a huge cut. i typed it so it made it sound like i dont want anyone to have money but i ment my goal is to provide creators with a way to get more money by improving content. rather than remaking the same stuff

But you are responsible to go trough all that data and look for copyright. Youtube can get away with it because they got army of lawyers.

i plan to either buy a machine or rent in a data center, and have full copy back ups in a fireproof rack.

 

But you are responsible to go trough all that data and look for copyright. Youtube can get away with it because they got army of lawyers.

For start it would be ok that every video that gets submitted must be approved by admin. For later I dont know because if you have 1000 videos a day uploaded you cant watch them all and approve manually by yourself.

the only way i could think of is get some sort of algorithm coded, but yeah i can see me at teh start sifting through vids.

has been done before but i dont think i am capable of doing that. but i will figure out something when the problem needs to be adressed.

Has be done by company like google. Asking from curiosity do you know any programming?

You're definitely going to need to seek out legal advice at some point. Between paying creators, handling copyright, and whatever else you may need, you need to make sure you're not going to get screwed over at some point.

Yes I can code I know about 8-9 languages 4 of them fluently.
