I'd like to buy a new graphics card but I'm torn between two designs.

The Nvidia GTX 750 Ti

And

The AMD R9 270

I don't care about a lot of things. I want the best price to performance.

CPU: FX 6300 AMD

PSU: 500W

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-78-LMTS2P

GPU: AMD HD Radeon 7750 (Blurgh)

Monitors: 24" 1680x1050 + 17" 1280x1024

I'm also a linux gamer. If that makes any difference.

You guys gotta read more than the first few lines he's on Linux, better OpenGL support from Nvidia GPU's = better performance over the 270.

If you don't mind putting just a bit more, you could get this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-Nvidia-TF-PCI-E-Graphics/dp/B00DIH8OW8

(since you apparently are from UK)

Unless you don't have sufficient power supply.

In which case you could get this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nvidia-GeForce-Graphics-GDDR5-PCI-Express/dp/B00ICUGOP0

Is it okay? I mentioned I had a 500W. It's a good card but I'm worried it might be a bit overkill. An extra £30 might be worth spending but I don't know.

Oh sorry, didn't notice you wrote the power supply there as well.

500W should be able to handle that just as well.

FX-6300 + GTX 760 + all that extra won't take more than 400W.

But as you said, it might be overkill.

Check the other one I added later.

The R9 270x stomps the 750Ti. Or you could go for the GTX 760 like @sapphirethunder said. Though the difference in fps is increased about 2-3fps more.

Apparently a 500W ought to handle it Okay. But is it good for price to performance?

GTX 760 is the one of the best. Especially for that price seen there.

And the Asus/Msi models are the one with coolest operating temperatures.

Even with the original listed price, it is still one of the best choices.

Here, it has the same specs as you. Might help you decide.
