I am looking for a 500gb ssd for storing photos and videos on when i am editing them. I will be using this in a USB 3 2.5 inch external enclosure so i can easy switch between my laptop and my desktop.

I was looking at the samgsung 840 evo. I was wanting a cheap ssd but if you know a better one tell me. Also has any one used an 2.5 inch external usb 3.0 enclosure. I need it to work with both mac and PC as i switch between these oses very often.

Does your laptop/desktop support Esata or thunderbolt? USB 3.0 isn't really ideal to pair up with an ssd.

Also, 840 Evo, Crucial MX100, Adata Sp900, Sandisk Extreme 2, Sandisk Ultra 2....

yea, esata is sanic fast, not alot faster than usb 3 but decently faster

if not a usb3.0 enclosure will do you wonders, Linus himself keeps steam and his steam games in an external ssd

Only problem with E-Sata is that it requires an external power source, so you would need some sort of power brick that ends in a SATA power cable.

My laptop is a 2012 macbook air and does support thunderbolt, but my desktop only has USB 3 but i could probally get sata cable running out of the back of the system. I am not just buying this ssd for the speed but also the reliabity so i can throw it into a bag and not worry about it breaking.
