micro atx fm3+ board

Go to solution Solved by 79wjd,

They can't oc for shit, you really need a 990x/990fx chipset with very good VRMs to oc the FX8xxx chips, which mATX AM3+ boards don't have.

And an FX8xxx is about the same cost as an i5 once you consider you need a high end board and an aftermarket cooler to run it; and for gaming, an i5-4460 will beat an FX8xxx.

so i know that the micro atx am3+ board are rocking the 700 series chipset, but after looking at some i see they have sata III *check* and USB 3 *check*

so what about the OC abilitys of these boards??? would it make sense to get one?? my case is micro atx, but the fx 8000 series has better price/performance than a core i5

thanks

I wouldn't recommend pairing a 8000-series FX CPU with a 700-Series chipset board, even if you keep the CPU at stock speeds. Its unfortunate but for micro-atx enthusiast level stuff you pretty much have to go Intel (Unless you can get by with an AMD APU). If you give us a budget we can see what kind of combinations you can get :)

My Current Build:

Intel i5 3570K @ 4.4GHz 1.11V, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, Asrock Z77 Extreme4, Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz, Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, Asus GTX 760 DCII Overclocked, Corsair CX600M

Sorry don't mean to hijack this thread. I posted a thread about this yesterday and after finding out the disappointing answers I'm not quite giving up. I've been thinking about building a budget Athlon 860k micro atx build in a prodigy M.

K don't know why I felt the need to say that but oh well.

Enthoo Primo - ASUS Maximus Formula VII - 4790k 4.8ghz 1.28v - EK Supremacy Evo Clean - 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical - 1000w EVGA Supernova Gold - 2x Alphacool Monsta Rads in push/pull - 2x Galaxy 780 HoF with EK waterblock

Build Log http://imgur.com/a/UV6Wh Just want to warn everyone, my build log is pretty mediocre.
