Windows is fucked up...

Alright, so I went to sign in, and it went to that color-cycling screen that says "we're setting up some things for you" or whatever. Not normal... Then I logged in, and I got a message saying that C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. Nothing works. If I want to open a program, I pretty much have to type it in the Run prompt. For the love of god, help. OS is Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 (64-bit, of course).

This install is hardly a month old...

 

On a side note, it attempted to fix some things. The Start screen has some stuff on it, but a bunch of my Metro apps are missing, as are all of my taskbar pins and my wallpaper.

That would be great, if it weren't for programs randomly going missing (I checked on my netbook, and they are GONE).

 

Tried going back to a restore point?

I rebooted again, and it kinda repaired itself. But I don't trust this install, so I'm throwing Ubuntu on my other hard drive.

Dude, all I can recommend is re install FROM YOUR CD!  not from an image on the internet.

So I would boot to your recovery disk or recovery partition, access CMD and run this:

DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

 

If you're able to launch CMD within the OS, I would run

SFC /SCANNOW

 

If you can't run CMD from within the OS, there is a way to run SFC from the recovery disk but it's more complicated, so I would try within the OS first.

DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
