I've been trying to build a a micro ATX PC that would be better than the PS4 or Xbox One however whenever I take the aspects bellow the consoles are better value for money.

Considerations

1. The form factor of the console (much smaller than any PC you could build)

2. The GPU on the PS4 is similar to a 7790 however since games will be specifically made for the console so they will perform much better than they would on a PC with a 7790.

3. You can play multiplayer on the same system.

Also I'm in Australia so the PS4 is $550 and the xbox one is $600

So I put it to you guys, can you build a better value for money PC than a console?

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/      Australian parts are significantly more expensive than US.

I'm not trying to invoke any hate or to say one system is better than the other. The idea behind this is I wanted to propose the idea of buying a gaming PC to my console friends and for them to just use it on their TV's as you would a console instead of buying one of the new consoles.

Just to clarify things. The aim of this is to work out if it is better to spend say $600 on a PC that you leave at your TV or are you better of with a console.

No I don't think you are trying to invoke hate you are just trying to find the best value for your money. I've been working on a build but already I feel like 500 dollars in Australia may be a hard sell. The better value may be the PS4 at least right now it would be if they were side by side down the road though its hard to say.

Ah, yea sorry something I tend to leave out since for me its normally just moving a new build into my case. So yea add an additional 30-100 dollars to the total there and there you go. I feel though by spending probably in the budget range of 800-900 you probably get yourself something that will outlast a PS4 and XBOX at launch and beyond now.

Hey mate, I'm also from Australia, but good news for us is that the PS4 isn't region locked. (http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-4-Launch-Day-Edition/dp/B00BGA9WK2/ref=sr_tr_sr_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371371578&sr=8-1&keywords=PS4)

Games are not region locked, although Blu rays and dvds will still be so keep that in mind.

Here is one with a case from the build previously. And you'll notice if you dropped another 100 into the build you can get a 3570k just baffles me how CRAZY mofo expensive AUS is.

Yea I mean I'd be half tempted to get a PS4 if money was a huge factor. I wouldn't give up my keyboard and mouse though I wouldn't like playing FPS's on a controller.

Yeah I'm tossing up between them aswell, like I think I want to play BF4 on my PC but the community will probably be bigger on PS4 :S

Well that is really hard to say. I think communities on both will be fairly large. However, you'll have the peace of mind that on PS4 everyone will be somewhat equal competition wise because there won't be someone with a slower computer going at you. It'll just be latency. and that is something that's becoming less and less of an issue.

You kind of have to remember that a pc can do a lot more stuff than game, so you definately pay at least 800 to get a really good experience, at this price for the tower and peripherals you get a great gaming experience as good as a ps4 and an xbox but also a fully fledged pc. When buying a gaming pc you might as well go for quality rather than skimping on things that will make the experience better so i dont really think there is much point in paying 400 for a tower and peripherals because you end up with a bad pc experience that is really only the same as a console experience, just my thoughts.

My specs:Fractal Define R4, i5 2550k, Asus GTX 560ti 2GB, Samsung 840 pro 120GB SSD, 16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM ,Seagate Barracuda 2TB, Corsair 600w PSU
