Hey guys, i need some tips on building a PC to host a cloud. Anyone built a PC to host a cloud before?...This is for my family, as my mother takes alot of photos on her tablet of wildlife and so on, and we need a PC that is built souly for a cloud. Will it need a GPU or can i just run it with a CPU and no GPU? Any tips or help would be good!

~Elias

I don't think you need a gpu, just a lot of ram. I have no experience with cloud pc though, so don't take my word for it. :P

No you do not need a GPU. You do not even need a monitor/keyboard/mouse after the initial setup. Just purchase a mid range i3 with 4-8 GB RAM, motherboard with fast ethernet and you are done.

You really don't need much to host a cloud server. I have my OwnCloud server running off of an old 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo with 2 GB of RAM and a 1TB HDD aand it works great. A modern i3 with 4-8GB of RAM, a decent motherboard and two harddrives, one for the operating system (SSD preferably) and one for all your data (1-2TB should be fine :))

My Current Build:

Intel i5 3570K @ 4.4GHz 1.11V, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, Asrock Z77 Extreme4, Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz, Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, Asus GTX 760 DCII Overclocked, Corsair CX600M

So how do i set it up, like once i got my PC, do i just then do some coding, or is there a program that set's up a local cloud for you?

Well first you will need to install a popular Linux distro on the server such as Ubuntu. Then you will have to install OwnCloud, there are many tutorials showing how to install it on Ubuntu so it should be too hard to install, it is also really user friendly :) Just send me a PM if you need any other help :)
