If a conputer fan gets to much voltage. What will happen?

It will spin faster and faster until the circuitry blows. Once that happens it will smoke and stop spinning, and if you are lucky you might even get some sparks.

It will spin excessively fast before it probably burns out.

What fan brand do you have @phillrulz?

That was just a generic brand fan, managed to make it float from its own downforce, wouldnt recommend it for normal use.

Noctua or Fractal Design?

Most premium/not cheap fans can take 13-14v safely, but its mostly the cheap fans that can take a bunch of voltage. I have a Logisys fan that can take 30v before blowing(not for long though), but its a pretty crappy fan other than that. Unless if you are wanting to screw around(and possibly wreck a fan), I would avoid over volting a fan. If you need more airflow, just get a Delta fan.

Eeh. This is a little stange. I want to build a biolite myself. I want small 4000rpm fans. I foud the fd r2 40mm fans where cheap and awesome. But the generators delivers 12v-15v and the fan is a 9v fan. Should be ok. Just had to check

Think it would be okay?

Fractal Design R2 40mm Silent runs with 9v. If i give them 12v-15v would anythig happen then?
