Me an 2 other people have no coil whine on gtx 970's, i'd bet that people complaining about it it's people playing at 59816fps without Vsync.

Anyway, out of those options i'd pick the 7990 despite being hot, noisy and all that crap.

I think you should get a 280x instead of a 285 because of the memory

Well from the research and testing compiled by all the legit professional reviewers the HD 7990 runs cool @ 80c max load. I don't know if it's worth going to the R9 285s in CFX for better noise and slightly better performance for an extra $50 bucks.

If at 1080p then two 285. If at higher res then 2x 4GB 760s

If you have room for two GPUs (ATX) and a CF compatible mobo don't get the 7990, because it's basically two 280s on one card. 285 produces less heat and uses less power, both of which are things you want to hear when running two GPUs.

If you're going to go with a 7990, you might as well go with a 970/980....

7990 beats both of them even though its way cheaper lol

and quiet with ok temps

980 is like over $600 bucks here minimum for a crappy one. Also as stated I am not putting up with coil whine.

Though the 280x performs the same in single card config in CFX the 285 scale better because of the new bridgeless "DMA" crossfireX technology borrowed from the R9 290 cards.

That's true. I just find it funny that that's one of the options... I imagine coil whine being a little better to deal with than roaring fans.

Not that I don't want them but I don't want coil whine and the 980 is out of my price rage and I need the performance of a 980.

7990 is your best bet then. Or you could get a non reference 970 then save for a second.

285 CFX can probably OC better than the 7990 which is refurbished and only runs @ 950Mhz and will most likely not OC well or at all and most likely stop working all together.

To much money in Canada. $680 minimum for CFX 290s here.

My opinion on the cards you've mentioned.

- 7990: wouldn't recommend, go for something else

- Get the most powerful card you can get, crossfire sli later.

I don't think the coil whine is as much of an issue as you think it is. But if your determined not to, then perhaps a non ref 290x. if you've got the time, waiting till the 300 series arrived would be an idea. Problem with that is that you could end up playing the waiting game... always waiting for that next card, then waiting for the price drop, and then, oh, if i wait a bit more another card will release. The waiting game, there are better games to play.
