windows update

i am running 8.1 right now, if i apply an update to the system, but not one that is replacing the os, do i keep all my files on my computer? its an update that adds security and stuff to 8.1

Definition of programmer: someone who can consume copious amounts of caffeine; and crap out a master piece through their fingers
