hey guys,

Im an early adopter of haswell (4770K) and so far i've learnt about all its quirks it but i'm not a huge fan of the heat it generates. I'm also turned off by its abysmal oc performance. I was wondering if you guys had a choice between a 3930K/ROG GeneZ and a 4770K/MPower Max which would you pick?

Im going to be doing GTX 780 SLI. I play latest games, do video editing and programming.

Not sure how high 3930K can OC but it will be sitting under a H110

If you will be doing video editing, I recommend going with the 3930K/ROG. Will give you a nice boost in rendering video compared to the 4770K due to the extra cores.
If you want you could get the cheaper i7 3820 quad core right now with the ROG motherboard and then upgrade whenever the Ive-E 2011 CPUs come out.

The 2011 series will not really do anything for gaming, but are nice for video editing if you have the money.

CPU: AMD 3950x Mobo: MSI B550 RAM: 32GB DDR4 GPU: Asus 3080 Strix PSU: Superflower Leadex 3 720w Case: BeQuiet 500DX

Storage: 2TB SSD + 4TB HDD Audio: SMSL 793ii -> HiFiman HE-400 + Mission MS-50 Speakers

Agreed. Remember, some Haswell chips are great overclockers, well some don't overclock at all.

I would wait for Ivy Bridge-E, as new motherboards would probably come out for those, as I believe there will be a new chipset.

For your uses, I would wait for Ivy Bridge-E or get the 3930K w/ a Sabertooth X79 or Rampage IV Extreme.

2011 platform is just as good as 1155/1150. 2-5fps difference in most situations, but you get 6 core and future 8 core cpu for beast workstation/editing machine.

oops, i meant to write Rampage IV Gene, thanks for pointing that out :)

In that case go with 2011, as you video edit.

Make sure to go for quad  channel memory, as that is better for X79.

Good luck!
