Hello Im new here,

I currently have Asus 7950 TOP V2, so my question is it worth upgrade to r9 290? im playing on 1080p. And what is the cheapest r9 290 anywhere in world. I was thinking visiontek cryovenom r9 290 at 300$ with water block and buy cm eisberg prestige 240 and put together.

Thank you.

Can't you add 50$ and get a 970? I went from a 7950 to a 970 and the upgrade was HUGE to say the least.

it's an upgrade for sure over the 7950. You don't need water cooling, as long as You avoid the reference air cooler You should be Good. If i was You though i would not buy now, You already have a 7950 so You may as well wait for AMD's 20nm cards. Buying a 970 or 290 now may not be worth it for You since your current card is solid.

$50 more and you got yourself a 290x lightning version.

Or same price - gtx 970, either or much better options than a 290.

I suspect the 380 wil come first, which looks like the most likely successor to the 290x (2800 cores vs 3200).

So expect it to compete prices with the 980.

390 with its 4000 cores will probably go against the Titan 2 (very expensive)

I doubt that AMD will go into a price region of the Titan. The Titan was and still is more than just a gaming GPU. It´s semi pro card.

There are many rumors going around especially after what was found on zauba.com that the next chip we´ll see from AMD might still be in 28nm but a lot of people also think that this will also just be a performance chip from AMD just like nVidia´s GM204. I really hope we see a good card from AMD that´ll be good for all consumers and nVidia will have to bring GM200 faster.

Dunno, the Hawaii chip was small chip compared to the GK110, 440 vs 560mm2.

And I have no idea wtf GloFo is doing.

390 is probably going to be cheaper, but it wont be cheap.

Maybe to go with r9 290x lightning which sugalumps suggest, i can sell my card and add rest of money, and if i ever need maybe i could cf with r9 380x. But im not sure will they do like with 7950/7970 it is the same as r9 280/x. What you think?

Rebranding is something that both big GPU manufacturers like to do... they just take last gen highend and resell them as mid range with the next gen.

Yes it was pretty small that´s true. But the problem of Hawaii wasn´t a bad chip or that this small die size leaves no resources, it was more the shitty reference cooler and cheap memory controller paired with cheap Elpida VRAM. Good thing that the board partners improved the R9 290 and R9 290X by a lot.  One of the most impressive cards for me was the Asus RoG Ares III. They showed how good the Hawaii XT really is.

Is it worth to get a 280x  for 1080p for $140 and wait for the new 300 series or should i just fork over the money now for the 970? but i imagine the 970 will drop in price when those new cards come out?  Please help haha

If you can wait, that may be best this time...

IMO - My rule of thumb... if its less than 2-4 months for new cards, I wait. If I know it's gunna be over 6 months or so, I'd jump on it now.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
