i5 4690k on MSI B85?

Hello

I just made a pc parts list for my friend since he wanted to build a new pc. It originally featured an i5 4670k. When he was supposed to buy all the components he saw on amazon that the 4690k was 15 € cheaper than the other one. He didn't tell me since now, and the components have already been delivered.

I'm not sure about their compatibility, on the web some say it will work without problems, others say it'll need a bios update and a guy on reddit said it wouldn't even boot up.

So my question is: is the 4690k compatible with the msi b85-g43?

If you have personal experience about this, please say so,

Thanks a lot

May need a BIOS update, depends on the version that it comes with. However, it should work otherwise.

It will need a BIOS update.  You are only able to apply the BIOS update with a haswell processor.  Maybe you have a haswell chip in your system that he can use to update the BIOS?

Oh, thanks for the information, I'm also running an 4690k on a z87, but I'm not sure about other chipsets

No, I have Haswell refresh too..

Some boards have a CPUless bios flash option but I don't think that's the case
