If you're installing Windows 8.1 pro. Use this generic installation key. XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB

If you're installing Windows 8.1 Core. Use this generic installation key. 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT.

You have 30 days to activate with your retail key. These are just installation keys. You cannot activate with it.

Hi Linus Tech community.

I'm just wondering if there's a way to activate windows 8.1 without a key.

I'm still waiting on the OS to be sent to me and i was wondering if there was a way to use windows until it arrives in a few days time.

Thanks!

Exactly. But on Windows 8.1 there is no 30-day period. You can use it all you want. You will just get pop-ups asking to activate and you'll only receive a few updates.

Sorry didn't notice that. I thought it'll be as same as Windows 7.

Your choice, it works. I can't really say more as it would be breaking the CoC of this forum.

You already did. You should not be recommending a crack or activator in this case.

It's not hard to google XXXXXXX. A first link get you straight to download page of XXXXXXX.

The information you know is against CoC, don't tell.

Wouldn't the installation keys mentioned in previous posts fall under the "windows solution"? You can change your key later, the point of those keys is to give you time to use your OS until you get your proper license key. As other people have mentioned the only real limitation is the number of updates, and some intrusive pop ups occasionally asking you to enter a valid license key (which you can click away until that key does arrive).

If this is not what you were looking for, then I think your original post may have been a little misleading, maybe describe more in detail what you are attempting to accomplish?
