I have a 144hz monitor, and so i'm wanting to push those extra frames in my games. And try to get games to at least a steady 60fps, which battlefield JUST fails to do so.

Would it be a decent upgrade to upgrade from my 660ti to a GTX970? Would my CPU be able to keep up? - Thanks.

Yes, but wait for the r9 3xx series as those will drive down gtx 9XX prices.

I usually wait until 2 generations of Nvidia cards have past to upgrade. Was thinking about getting it for xmas but i guess it'll be worthwhile waiting then.

If you have the money, I would. 970s are a hell of a deal, and R9-290's can be had for incredible deals right now.

I dont think that will happen. Nvidia will just add more cards to the top of the Maxwell lineup. The 780Ti was launched at $699, I be we see a 980Ti or Titan (X or 2?) for around that same $699 price point.

Given your monitor, it would be worth upgrading. I'd just recommend getting the best single gpu you can afford.

Your CPU will be fine for a while.

Yeah man you would be able to utilize that 144hz monitor much more with a better GPU.

It's a damn great experience. And it means that I don't get any tearing when having vsync disabled.

Exactly. I have a 144hz monitor as well. It it crazy how much smoother your games look if you have the GPU to back it up.

Though, i might upgrade my CPU to the 4790k. IF i can sell my 4670k. We'll see.

I mean you'll see minor improvements, but unless you can sell you 4670k for a good price i'm not sure it's worth the hassle or the money :P unless you just want to say you have top of the line shizz which i can understand that too haha

It would be a decent upgrade, although I'm not sure why you can't get a steady 60fps in battlefield at 1080p... I was able to push 60fps on medium with a single 660ti at 1440p before I got my second card.

Nvidia often releases new cards at fairly aggressive prices, but then leaves them there and is relatively resistant to price drops. Once AMD has it's competing products out, they usually have little trouble staying below the pricing of Nvidia's equivalent products for long stretches of time.

No one knows what Nvidia will do this time, of course, but based on history I wouldn't bet on major price drops for the GTX 900's.

people always hesitate with upgrading because they don't want to get stuck with the card that came out just before the mythical "big one." I would just get the 970 and enjoy it for a few years, or jump ship and grab a cheap 290. either will double your performance and provide enough performance to last a few years.
