My computer has a 120gb SSD and a HDD, the OS is on the SSD. How do I completely wipe all the data and os off my ssd, so that I can reinstall windows 8 onto my computer via usb, and do I fresh install? Sorry if I missed anything, I've been trying to find an anser for an hour now

Specs:

OS: windows 8 64 bit

GPU: sapphire R9 270x

mobo: asus M5A97 r2.0

SSD: samsung ssd 840 EVO

HDD: WD green 1tb

Delete the partition in the Windows Installer.

Hey Limbo265,

As the guys pointed out, the Windows 8 installer itself formats a partition in order to install itself. As long as your SSD is one whole partition, simply select it and the installer will format it. If you have more partitions, simply delete them and extend the Os partition all the way and then format it with the installer.

If you have any important data left on the ssd, back it up to the hdd. then plug off the hdd from your mobo, just in case you dont select the wrong drive/partition in the windows installer. Restart your computer with the windows usb stick and boot from it. during the installation process windows is asking, which partition should be used for windows. there you can delete all existing partitions. Then select the not formated space and click continue. windows will automatically format the ssd during the following installation process.

dont forget to plug in the hdd after you have installed windows succesfully! ;)

The only way that I know how to completely nuke a dive and get all the data off is to use something like parted magic on the selected drive to get a turely clean install
