Hey folks of the LTT forum!
This is my first (I think) post here, but have been lurking around in here for the past two months.
Anyways, so, my dad built me this rig as a birthday gift, using parts he had lying around, and I first fired it up today after not having any room for it for the past 6 months, and it used about 4 minutes on starting up (please note this is not the first time its started up). This got me thinking about what kind of cheap upgrades I could get for it besides getting an SSD (trust me, it will happen after xmas).
Upgrading the mobo, CPU and ram comes to mind as the obvious answer, but Im not sure what to get?
I was thinking of a CPU along the lines of the i5 4440 and a compatible mobo that supports SLI and dual channel ram (so I can use my 8gb of ram that sits in the rig currently).
I already have two graphics cards (not sure which but they seem to run fine), as well as 8 gigs of ram in adition to a Q6660 which windows says is running at 2.4ghz (my brother said he OCed it, nut sure what it runs at, Im sorry for being such a noob).
This computer will mostly only be used for watching youtube, netflix, listening to music and sometimes gaming (starcraft 2, Dawn of War 2 and the like) so no need for replacing the gpu's I think.
Any suggestions?

This is a worthy upgrade to your Q6600 but be aware the fact that you need an SLI ready motherboard makes you spend more than you would have on the motherboard, it's a nice one though

and gives you an upgrade path to an i7-4790K or similar down the road as well if you find yourself needing more:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Found out what GPU's its running, and 8800GTX sounds like old cards :P
So I think I'll upgrade those too...
But that mobo and CPU price you posted there is way lower than what I would have to pay here in Norway, but seem like a good choice and well within my price range.
Any Ideas for a half decent graphics card that will run 1080p nice and smooth for some time ahead? is the GTX750ti worth going for?

no the 750ti is expensive look at r9 270, r9 270x and r9 280 instead they all offer more performance at similar cost...they are better.

Input 'DxDiag' in the 'run...' (windows key+R in windows) field and post the first half* of the result here. (Save to desktop as a .txt file) That would make this easier.

*Up to and including 'Display devices'

edit: nvm we have most of the info now.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

My brother suggested the PSU to be a major role in why the computer was slow, any good cheap and reliable PSUs you would reccomend?

i would go with this one, very good quality for the price.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182261&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

A PSU won't slow down your computer, but if it fails it can damage your components...so that's why you should get one regardless.

This 450W is plenty for your core i5-4440 and radeon R9 280 build and it's very reliable.
