Windows 8.1 Pro for students

Does anyone have any experience with using Windows 8.1 Pro for students on a fresh install?  From my understanding if I have a .edu email address (which my wife does) and a computer running Windows 7 or newer I can download to either a USB or .iso on dvd.  My question is will both the USB or .iso work to do a fresh 8.1 install on a new machine?
