I know the Nvidia GPU's pretty well but I am entertaining the idea of possibly including AMD gpu's in my coming build to reduce cost, but am having an issue and was hoping someone with recent experience with AMD gpu's could tell me. Which gpu would i need to go with to run 3- 1080p monitors at 60fps easily on mostly ultra settings. I was planning to go with SLI 970's but I am wanting to have an AMD option there as well. I know the single monitor performance i could go with a R9 280 and get 1080p at 60+ frames but i want to have 3 monitors and over 60 frames with no more than 2 gpu's in crossfire.

I would go GTX 970 SLI, wouldn't think of AMD right now with where the GTX 970 stands but if you had to I would go dual R9 290 Sapphire Tri-x or Vapor-x

I am still planning going with the 970s but I was also just entertaining the idea of it as a cheaper alternative. I wont be building this system for 2 1/2 months but I want all of my pricing figures and performance figures right before hand so i can think it over and decide which would be the one for me. Plus it gives me more options incase of money issues at the time, because you never know what will happen in 2 1/2 months.

Yea I think after looking at my build with the R9 290 in place it definitely wont be for me because it will actually increase my initial build cost by about $80-100 over what I already had with the 970 because I would have to step up to a minimum of a 800w power supply since my estimated usage with two of these would be 702 watts and i intend to overclock both the cpu and gpu's. I would go from dropping $60 on a psu to dropping about $120 on a psu.

Keep your eyes on those 290s though, they've dropped as low as 200/250 before, which should easily cover any PSU increase + some, the 970s will be the surest bet though.

Do not  as I  do, and  not  as I say. Instead do as you may..

Ill keep an eye out im hoping when the new AMD gpu's drop it will start a price war and the particular 970 i want will go from $359 down to around $280-300 if so im for sure going 970 no mater what AMD cards do.

I'm hoping for something similar, Nvidia surprised with their aggressive prices but this pleases me. Hoping AMD continues what they started with the 200 series cards and prices them competitively helps keep high levels of performance nice and cheap for us! :)

Most definitely i remember back in 2008 when i built my last rig just for a mid range AMD card i spent over $500 which looking back now was a really stupid move. Especially since what im building this time im doing on a $1,300 budget with monitor, keyboard, and mouse included and it easily 5x the performance of my last.. I dont remember much of what went into my last but i do remember it had a V2 black edition cpu and dual 500gb velociraptor HDD's
