Yay, a thread for my questions installing OS X on Athena.

 

First question:

 

Alright, I have my OS X 10.9 .dmg ready to go... But how do I put it on a flash drive so I can boot off the damn thing and get all of my drivers and stuff installed for my hardware? Since I have Windows 8.1, and all of the stuff I'm seeing requires OS X to work, how do I go about this? Do I just write the image to an 8GB flash drive with PowerISO? Or... What? Please help. Complete noob with OS X. I'm surprised I know how to install/run apps on 10.6, TBH.

You can try installing parallels or vmware on your windows computer to run OS X and use unibeast (or whatever installer you want) to create the USB boot drive.

Alternatively you can goto the Apple Store and use a computer there. 

 

But I would highly recommend getting a cheap Intel based Mac (like a MacBook Air or Mac Mini) because it can be useful when you need to troubleshoot your hackintosh installation. For instance I've had no errors at all but the hack would get stuck during boot up. Plop the SSD into a USB 3.0 enclosure and attach it to the macbook and it boots perfectly into the OS. Put the SSD back into the hack and it works perfectly. ya idk...weird.

Sadly, I don't have money for a Mac at all, and I'm nowhere near an Apple store.

Do you know someone with a Mac? As far as I know, you have to use Unibeast on OS X to make the flash drive bootable... But as far as I know, you should have no issues running OS X on your G3258 build.

Maybe someday that will be possible, there is a Wine like project to make Mac programs run on Linux.
