Triple monitors

Hi

I was wondering if a single R9 290 non reference or a GTX 970 could run 3 1920x1080 monitors without effecting FPS too much.

Also which GPU should I go for?

With the 290 I can get 16gb ram in my budget and with the 970 I can get 8gb ram.

Depends what settings you want to play on. That's a higher res then 4K. So I doubt it.

you could sli the 970 and get decent frame rates with tweaked settings

nope, it is 1/2-3/4 of 4k (some games have surround monitors so the side monitors aren't full 1080p all the way across)

lemme see. I'm pretty sure 4K is 3840*2160, 3* 1080p is 5760*3240. It apparently has more pixels then 4K.

No, I forgot that 3*1080p monitors means you don't have to multiply 1080 by 3 for the vertical pixels.

Yes, so long as you're willing to play at medium-ish settings.

 

EDIT: don't bother with 16gb of RAM, get 8GB and put the remaining money into your "second 290 fund".
