Hey guys,

My buddy is being stubborn and making me design him a $500 gaming pc (that is 500 USD). He wants to get a minimum of 45FPS with upgradability (like ability to add a second card, and more ram). I am struggling a bit cause he needs everything except a case (he already has that). First, I will only recommend 1 8GB stick of ram so he can easily upgrade later, and he needs a good aftermarket cooler for overclocking, I was thinking of the be quiet dark rock pro 3 cause it is only $60 and seems to be very good, i really wanted the noctua nh-d14 or d15 but they are a bit more expensive.

Any suggestions.

::EDIT:: sorry, he also has a 1TB Hard drive, so he doesnt need that. A small SSD would be nice. Also, he doesnt plan to purchase this for another few months which i also tell him might make a difference in the prices depending on what is released, but he doesnt really listen well.

to be honest, a OC able, ready for SLI Systems is pretty though with 500$, even if dont count the GPU, If you take a too cheap CPU he has to swap out everything eventually when upgrading. So I really suggest a good Mobo, CPU, and PSU

CPU: Xeon 1230v3 - GPU: GTX 770  - SSD: 120GB 840 Evo - HDD: WD Blue 1TB - RAM: Ballistix 8GB - Case: CM N400 - PSU: CX 600M - Cooling: Cooler Master 212 Evo

Update Plans: Mini ITX this bitch

for the cooler- hyper 212 evo. cpu can be i3-4130 or up to 4160,but if you choose an i3 you don't need the cpu cooler only if he means to get like an i7k or i5k, a cheap mobo, if he needs a hdd get the cheapest 1tb u can find, and if he needs an ssd, get a cheap 120gb one (or more if he wishes so), ram is ok tho I doubt that 1 8gb stick is better than 2 4gb sticks because I doubt he'll need 64gb of ram. psu should be 500w or for futureproofing, maybe an 650w and the r9 270x gpu

Longboarders/ skaters message me!

I personally don't think a dark rock pro 3 is worth it in a $500 build. A Hyper 212 Evo will do just fine, and is at least half the price.
